      Respiratory Department is one of the key departments of Clifford Hospital. It is staffed with excellent national professionals who treat patients with integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, with over 20 staff comprising of experts with high professional titles, professors, chief physicians, associate chief physicians, attending physicians and well-trained professional nurses. Respiratory Department makes common diseases, frequently occurring diseases and critical diseases such as bronchial asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pulmonary infection, respiratory failure, sleep apnea syndrome, rare and persistent respiratory diseases and extreme respiratory system failure and others as the priority of clinical work and focus of scientific research.



    Electronic Bronchoscope


    Respiratory-related examination techniques such as sleep apnea syndrome monitoring, bronchoscopy, Transbronchial Lung Biopsy (TBLB), percutaneous lung biopsy, arterial bronchi intervention to stop bleeding, lung function detection, aspiration of sputum, asthma anaphylactogen (both in-vitro and in-vivo detection), etc, have approached domestic advanced levels. Under the guidance of integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, Respiratory Department brings its practical advantages into full play, following the motto of “Treating Patients With a Caring Heart and Respect for Life” to provide high quality, efficient, unique and appropriate medical service.

    The Department has inpatient ward, outpatient clinic and specialized auxiliary examination rooms.

    Specialized auxiliary examination rooms include bronchoscope room, lung function testing room and sleep apnea syndrome monitoring room.


    Scope of Services

    1. Acute throat infection, acute tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchiolitis and various pneumonia;
    2. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Emphysema (COPE), and pulmonary heart disease.
    3. Bronchial asthma, bronchiectasia, pulmonary closure, upper airway obstruction.
    4. Pulmonary embolism, pulmonary vascular inflammation, primary pulmonary hypertension.
    5. Pneumothorax, pleural effusion, pleurisy.
    6. Idiopathic fibrosis of the lung, exogenous allergic alveolitis and sequoiosis proteinosis, pulmonary sarcoidosis.
    7. Acute and chronic respiratory failure.
    8. Snoring and sleep apnea syndrome.
    9. Chest complaint of unknown origin, breathing disorder, chronic cough, pulmonary tumor of unknown origin, interpleural space and diaphragmatic muscle diseases.

    Specialist Equipment

    The Respiratory Medicine Department employs the latest medical technology equipment to treat its patients, such as imported breath machine, electron bronchoscope, bronchofibroscope, pulmonary function testing machine, sleep apnea monitor, Holmium laser, advanced and digital subtraction radiography X-ray machine, high resolution CT, MRI, isotope scanner and blood gas analyzer. The laboratory, pathology room and microbiology rooms have the latest analytical equipment and are well suited to fully support clinical examination and diagnostic requirements.

    Diagnosis and Treatment Feature

    The Respiratory Medicine Department has many staff experienced in the treatment of various medical conditions using TCM, Western Medicine, and their combination which allows the selection of the most appropriate treatment plan for patients.

    The Respiratory Medicine Department can diagnosis and treat unusual and stubborn respiratory diseases like: Lung disease of unknown origin, refractory lung disease, rare and complicated lung disease, intractable lung disease. The Respiratory Medicine Department has adopted advanced principles and consultation system, so that most patients can attain definite diagnosis and satisfactory treatment effect.

    The Respiratory Medicine Department has developed arterial bronchus intervention to treat hemoptysis, B-ultrasound and X-ray guided percutaneous lung biopsy, thoracic cavity puncture closed drainage, pleura adhesion for pleural effusion and aeropleura, thrombolysis for lung embolism, diagnosis and treatment by bronchoscope, face mask and trachea cannula, tracheotomy ventilator support rescue for acute and chronic respiratory failure. We have developed a non-invasive ventilation therapy for the treatment of COPD and sleep apnea syndrome.
