Dr. Zhang is the deputy director of E.N.T Dept. and director of Otology Dept. of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. He is a nationally famous specialist of ear microsurgery (one of the top 10 experts in otitis media). He once studied in Sweden and Germany, majoring in precision treatment of otomicrosurgery for middle ear illnesses.

He has practiced microsurgery for over 30 years and specializes in microsurgical precision treatment for otitis media, otosclerosis, deafness and vertigo. He has conducted in-depth study in lesion removal combined with hearing recovery surgery in otitis media (especially surgical precision treatment for complex adhesive otitis media). He has completed 8000 cases of such surgery, with a success rate of over 97.6% and a leading level of hearing loss reversal in the international community.

Main research directions: Microsurgical precision treatment for middle ear illnesses, prosthetic restoration of auricular malformation, rehabilitation of conductive hearing loss, and biomechanics of middle ear in reversing hearing loss.

He owns 2 national practical new model patents and 4 internationally leading otomicrosurgery technologies and won the first prize in cartilage tympanoplasty in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. He had 3 projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 project of Sun Yat-sen University 5010 clinical research, and several provincially funded projects, with a total research fund over 3 million yuan. As the first or corresponding author, he has published over 100 research papers in core otorhinolaryngology journals and 18 SCI papers, with one of them being a cover paper.
