Comprehensive application of Western medicine, Chinese medicine, natural medicine, large modern hospital
The Neurology Department if one of the earliest departments established over a decade at Clifford Hospital. Its treatment approach combines the use of Chinese medicine, Western medicine and natural medicine through multidisciplinary team collaboration. Currently, Neurology has 40 inpatient beds and 3 outpatient clinics.The department receives more than 20,000 outpatient visits and handles approximately 1,500 in-patient discharges yearly, staffed by 12 neurologists who specialize in either Western medicine, Chinese medicine or both.
The department director, the assistant head physician and the academic leader are standing members of Neurology Subcommittee of Guangdong Provincial Association of Chinese Medicine, members of Neurology Subcommittee of Guangzhoudong Association of the Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine, and members of Rehabilitation Group of Neurology Subcommittee of Guangdong Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2 projects of Science and Technology Bureau of Panyu District, and a number of projects of Clifford Hospital. In addition, they undertook multiple projects of Guangdong Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Science and Technology Bureau of Panyu District. They published over 10 papers in national and provincial medical journals, and gave presentation on 8 papers in national and provincial academic conferences.
Neurology Department is equipped with advanced medical technologies, such as GE1.5T MRI scanner, color Doppler ultrasound machine, Philips 64-slice CT scanner, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and USA’S Nicolet electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG). These resources in conjunction with professional expertise enable efficient diagnostic and therapeutic service delivery. The practice of integrative approach to treatment combines TC., Western medicine and non-toxic natural therapy to target acute or chronic cerebrovascular diseases, nervous system inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular disorders, demyelinating diseases, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and autoimmune diseases. Besides, the access to high quality care, our extensive rehabilitation program is also a crucial part of treatment and recovery. For these reasons, the Neurology Department has become an indispensable part of health care delivery in the local community.
In order to preserve the academic and clinical ideologies of renowned ancient TCM practitioners in treatment, expertise and scientific research, a TCM medical literature database was developed. The department collects and evaluates valuable prescriptions, distinctive therapies and documented case studies for future application in this field of medicine.
Neurology Department was designated as one of the prioritized specialty area for construction in a 5 year plan by the Guangdong Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in November 2011. It became affiliated with the China Stroke Center Alliance of Chinese Stroke Association in November, 2015.
