Dr. Yu Gang is currently the director of Pediatric Surgery Dept. of Clifford Hospital and previously the director of Pediatric Surgery Dept., Fetal Medicine Dept., Pediatric Thoracic Surgery Dept. of Guangdong Women and Children’s Hospital. He is the chairperson of the Fetal Medicine Specialty Committee of Guangdong Clinical Medical Association and a member of National Fetal Medicine Committee.

As a pediatric surgeon for over 30 years, he specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases in pediatric general surgery, urology, and general thoracic surgery. In the past decade, he has been engaging in medical research in newborn surgery and related fetal medicine. He is one of the pioneers in fetal and newborn surgery in Guangdong province, enjoying a high reputation in China.

He is an excellent expert in diagnosing and treating fetal diseases, including congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation, bronchopulmonary sequestration, fetal hydronephrosis, fetal and newborn esophageal atresia, fetal and newborn diaphragmatic hernia, fetal intestinal atresia, fetal gastroschisis and fetal acromphalus. He is the first to have extended fetal medicine services to pediatric surgery, initiated and provided thoracoscopy and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures for infants and young children. Currently, he performs more than 500 pediatric surgeries every year, caring for patients from all parts of the country.

His completed and ongoing researches: 1 subproject of the National High-tech R&D Program (863 program), 4 projects from provincial Department of Science and Technology and 1 project from provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Administration. He won the Chinese Preventive Medicine Award (top 6), the Provincial Scientific and Technological Advancement Award (top 2) and 5 national patents (including 4 first prizes and 1 second prize).
